मां कूष्मांडा का स्वरूप:
पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार माता ने अपनी मंद मुस्कान से सृष्टि की रचना की थी, इसलिए माता को सृष्टि की आदिशक्ति भी कहा जाता है। माता को अष्टभुजा देवी भी कहा जाता है, क्योंकि माता की आठ भुजाएं हैं। इनके सात हाथों में क्रमश: कमंडल, धनुष, बाण, कमल पुष्प,कलश, चक्र और गदा है. आठवें हाथ में सभी सिद्धियां और निधियों को देने वाली माला है. देवी के हाथों में जो अमृत कलश है, वह अपने भक्तों को दीर्घायु और उत्तम स्वास्थ्य का वर देती है. मां सिंह की सवारी करती हैं, जो धर्म का प्रतीक है.
मां कूष्मांडा को पूजा विधि:
नवरात्र में हरे या संतरी रंग के कपड़े पहनकर मां कूष्मांडा का पूजन करें. पूजा के दौरान मां को हरी इलाइची, सौंफ या कुम्हड़ा अर्पित करें. मां कूष्मांडा को उतनी हरी इलाइची अर्पित करें जितनी कि आपकी उम्र है. हर इलाइची अर्पित करने के साथ "ॐ बुं बुधाय नमः" कहें. सारी इलाइची को एकत्र करके हरे कपड़े में बांधकर रखें. इलाइची को शारदीय नवरात्रि तक अपने पास सुरक्षित रखें
इसके बाद उनके मुख्य मंत्र "ॐ कूष्मांडा देव्यै नमः" का 108 बार जाप करें. चाहें तो सिद्ध कुंजिका स्तोत्र का पाठ भी कर सकते हैं.
मां कूष्मांडा व्रत कथा:
पराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार मां कुष्मांडा का जन्म दैत्यों का संहार करने के लिए हुआ था। कुष्मांडा का अर्थ कुम्हड़ा होता है। कुम्हड़े को कुष्मांड कहा जाता है इसीलिए मां दुर्गा के चौथे स्वरूप का नाम कुष्मांडा रखा गया था । देवी का वाहन सिंह है। जो भक्त नवरात्रि के चौथे दिन मां कूष्मांडा की विधिवत तरीके से पूजा करता है उससे बल, यश, आयु और स्वास्थ्य की प्राप्ति होती है। मां कुष्मांडा को लगाए गए भोग को प्रसन्नता पूर्वक स्वीकार करती हैं। यह कहा जाता है कि मां कुष्मांडा को मालपुए बहुत प्रिय हैं इसीलिए नवरात्रि के चौथे दिन उन्हें मालपुए का भोग लगाया जाता है।

सिंहरूढा अष्टभुजा कुष्माण्डायशस्वीनाम्।।

भागवत पुराण के अनुसार, देवी पार्वती के विवाह के बाद से लेकर कार्तिकेय के जन्म के बीच का है. इस रूप में देवी संपूर्ण सृष्टि को धारण करने वाली है. मान्यता है कि संतान की इच्छा रखने वालों भक्तो को मां की उपासना करनी चाहिए. ज्योतिष के जानकारों की मानें तो देवी के इस स्वरूप की उपासना से कुंडली के बुध से जुड़ी परेशानियां दूर हो सकती है. इनकी उपासना से भक्तों के समस्त रोग-शोक नष्ट हो जाते हैं.

Offer as much green cardamom to Maa Kushmanda as you are of age. Say "Om Bu Budhay Namah" with each cardamom offering. Collect all the cardamom and keep it tied in a green cloth. Keep cardamom with you till Sharadiya Navratri
