करवा चौथ का व्रत कार्तिक मास की कृष्ण पक्ष की चतुर्थी को मनाया जाता है इस दिन स्त्रियां अपने पति की लंबी आयु के लिए पूरा दिन निर्जला व्रत रखती हैं और रात को चांद को देखने के बाद , चांद को अर्घ्य देकर अपने पति का मुख देखने के बाद ही भोजन करती है। तब यह व्रत संपूर्ण होता है।
करवा चौथ व्रत कथा
एक साहूकार के सात लड़के और एक लड़की थी । उसकी लड़की उन दिनों अपने मायके में ही आई हुई थी । साहूकार की पत्नी , उसकी सातों बहुओं और उसकी लड़की ने करवा चौथ का व्रत रखा । साहूकार के लड़के अपनी बहन से बहुत प्यार करते थे । साहूकार के लड़के रात के समय जब भोजन करने बैठे तो उन्होंने अपनी बहन से कहा कि – "आओ बहन , भोजन कर लो " । परंतु उसकी बहन ने भोजन करने के लिए मना कर दिया और कहा कि आज मेरा करवा चौथ का व्रत है । रात में चांद देखने के बाद ही मैं भोजन करूंगी । तब बहन की यह बात सुनकर उसके भाइयों से रहा नहीं गया और उन्होंने गांव से दूर एक पेड़ के ऊपर चढ़कर लकड़ी में आग जलाकर और उसका प्रकाश छलनी में से अपनी बहन को दिखाते हुए कहा कि बहन , चांद तो निकल आया है । चांद को अर्घ्य दे दो और भोजन कर लो । उसकी बहन ने अपनी भाभियों से कहा कि भाभी देखो चांद निकल आया है । तुम भी चांद को देखकर अर्घ दे दो और भोजन शुरू कर दो । उसकी भाभियों ने कहा कि नहीं , जीजी। आपके भाई आपके साथ छल कर रहे हैं । यह चांद नहीं है ,चांद को निकलने में अभी समय है ।लेकिन उसने अपनी भाभियों की बात नहीं मानी । वह भूख से बहुत व्याकुल हो चुकी थी ।उसे अपने भाईयों द्वारा दिखाएं गए प्रकाश को ही चांद समझकर उसे अर्ध्य दे दिया और भोजन करने बैठ गई । जैसे ही उसने पहला टुकड़ा तोड़ा तो उसे छींक आ गई , दूसरा टुकड़ा तोड़ते ही उसमें बाल निकल आया । और जैसे ही वह अगला टुकड़ा तोड़कर खाने लगी तभी उसकी ससुराल से बुलावा आया कि –" उसका पति बहुत बीमार है " । उसे तुरंत अपने ससुराल जाना होगा । साहूकारनी अपनी बेटी के ससुराल जाने की तैयारी करने लगी । जैसे ही साहूकारनी ने बक्सा खोला उसमें पहले काले रंग के कपड़े दिखाई दिए , फिर जैसे दूसरा बक्सा खोला उसमें सारे कपड़े सफेद रंग के थे । तब बेटी बोली कि – मां तुम रहने दो । मैं ऐसे ही चली जाऊंगी । जब बेटी चलने को तैयार थी तब उसकी मां ने कहा कि "बेटी , जब तुम जाओ और रास्ते में कोई तुम्हें बुजुर्ग दिखाई दे तो उसके पैर छूना और जब वें तुम्हें बूढ़ सुहागन होने का आशीर्वाद दे तो तभी पल्ले में एक गांठ बांध लेना । बेटी ने कहा – ठीक है मां और वह अपनी ससुराल के लिए चल पड़ी । रास्ते में जो भी उसे बुजुर्ग मिलता , तो वह सब के पैर छूती और सब उसे आशीर्वाद देते कि खुश रहो ,पीहर का सुख देखो । पर किसी के मुख से उसे बूढ़ सुहागन होने का आशीर्वाद नहीं निकला जैसे तैसे वह अपने ससुराल पहुंच गई । जब वह अपने ससुराल पहुंची तो उसकी छोटी ननंद घर के बाहर खेल रही थी । उसने अपनी ननंद के पैर छुए तो ननंद के मुख से निकला – सदा सौभाग्यवती रहो ,पुत्रवती रहो और बूढ़ सुहागन रहो । यह सुनते ही उसने अपने पल्ले में गांठ बांध ली । जब वह घर के अंदर पहुंची तो उसने देखा कि उसका पति मर चुका है और उसे नीचे अर्थी पर लिटा रखा है । सब उसे ले जाने की तैयारी कर रहे हैं । वह बहुत रोई और बहुत जोर से चिल्लाने लगी । जैसे ही लोग उसकी अर्थी को ले जाने लगे , वह रोती और चिल्लाती हुई जोर से बोली कि – नहीं मैं इन्हीं नहीं जाने दूंगी । लेकिन जब सब नहीं माने तो वह बोली कि मैं भी इनके साथ ही जाऊंगी और बार-बार यही कह रही थी कि मैं भी इनके साथ ही जाऊंगी । सब बोले कि ठीक है ,ले चलो इसे भी साथ में । जब वहां श्मशान में सब लोग उसके पति को जलाने लगे तब वह बोली कि – मैं इन्हें जलाने नहीं दूंगी । तो वहां पर खड़े लोगों को गुस्सा आ गया और बोले कि पहले तो अपने पति को खा गई और अब इसकी मिट्टी को भी खराब करना चाहती है । लेकिन वो नहीं मानी । और कहने लगी कि मैं इन्हें नहीं जलाने दूंगी । अगर तुम लोगों ने इन्हें जलाया , तो तुम्हें पहले मुझ में आग लगानी होगी । तब परिवार के सदस्यों और बड़े बुजुर्गों ने निर्णय किया कि – ठीक है , इसे इसके पति के शरीर के साथ ही यही छोड़ दो और इसकी एक झोपड़ी भी यही बनवा दो । ये यही अपने पति के साथ रह लेगी । साहूकार की बेटी अपने मुर्दा पति के साथ वही झोपड़ी में रहने लगी । वह अपने पति के शरीर की साफ सफाई करती । उसकी छोटी ननंद आकर उसको दिन में दो समय खाना दे जाती । वह हर मास की चतुर्थी को व्रत करती थी , चांद को अर्घ्य देती और ज्योत उठाती। जब चौथ माता आती तो कहती करवो ले करवो ले , भाइयों की प्यारी बहन करवो ले, घनी भूखारी करवो ले । वह चौथ माता से अपने पति के प्राण मांगती । तब चौथ माता उसे कहती थी जब हमसे बड़ी चौथ आएगी तुम उनसे अपने पति के प्राण मांगना । ऐसा करते करते सभी चौथ माता आती और उससे यही कहती कि जब हमसे बड़ी चौथ आएगी तब तुम उनसे अपने पति के प्राण मांगना । ऐसा करते करते समय बीतने लगा । आश्विन मास की चौथ माता आई और उससे बोली कि तुझसे कार्तिक मास की चौथ माता नाराज हैं । वही तुझे तेरा सुहाग दे सकती हैं ,जब कार्तिक मास की चौथ माता आए तो तुम उनके पैर मत छोड़ना । कार्तिक मास की चौथ आने से पहले उसने अपनी छोटी ननंद से सोलह श्रृंगार का पूरा सामान मंगवाया और करवा भी मंगवाया। छोटी ननंद ने घर जा कर यह बात अपनी मां को बताई तब सास बोली कि लगता है मेरी बहू बेटे के गम में जाने के बाद पागल हो गई है । और अपनी बेटी से बोली कि जा अपनी भाभी को जो भी मांगती है वह सामान दे दे। ननंद श्रृंगार का सारा सामान अपनी भाभी को दे आई । साहूकार की बेटी ने करवा चौथ का व्रत रखा और चांद को देखकर अर्घ्य दिया और करवाचौथ माता की जोत उठाई। जब चौथ माता प्रकट हुई तो माता बोली करवो ले करवो ले , सात भाइयों की प्यारी बहन करवो ले ,दिन में चांद उगाने वाली करवो ले , घणी भूखारी करवो ले । तब वह बोली माता मेरा सुहाग मुझे वापस कर दो तब चौथ माता बोली – तू तो बहुत भूखी है , सात भाइयों की प्यारी बहन है , तुझे सुहाग से क्या काम । तब साहूकार की बेटी बोली – नहीं ,माता नहीं , मैं आपके पैर तब तक नहीं छोडूंगी । जब तक आप मेरा सुहाग मुझे वापस नहीं लौटा देती। चौथ माता ने उससे सुहाग का सारा सामान मांगा । तो उसने एक एक करके सारा सामान माता को दे दिया । चौथ माता ने अपनी आंखों से काजल निकाला , नाखूनों से मेहंदी निकाली और मांग से सिंदूर निकाला और छीटकी उंगली का छींटा दिया और उसका पति जीवित हो गया । जाते-जाते चौथ माता उसकी झोपड़ी पर लात मार गई , जिससे उसकी झोपड़ी महल बन गई । जब छोटी ननंद अगले दिन खाना लेकर आई तो उसने देखा भाभी की झोपड़ी की जगह तो महल खड़ा है । ननंद को देखते ही साहूकार की बेटी दौड़े-दौड़े अपने ननंद के पास आई और कहा कि देखो , जीजी आपका भाई वापस आ गया । घर जाकर सासु मां से कहो कि हमें गाजे-बाजे के साथ वापस लेने आए । ननंद दौड़ी-दौड़ी अपनी मां के पास जाकर बोली – मां , मां भाई जिंदा हो गया , तब मां बोली कि तेरी भाभी के साथ साथ तेरा भी दिमाग खराब हो गया है ।नहीं मां , मैंने देखा है ,भाई सच में जिंदा हो गया है । भाभी ने गाजे-बाजे के साथ हमें बुलाया है । सभी घरवाले गाजे-बाजे के साथ अपने बेटे को लेने पहुंचे तो बेटे को जिंदा देखकर सास बहुत खुश हुई। बहू ने अपनी सास के पैर छुए और बोली देखो मां ,आपका बेटा वापस आ गया । सास बोली –मैंने तो साल भर पहले ही इसे अपने घर से भेज दिया था ,वह तो तू ही है,जो इसे वापस लाई है । तब सास अपनी बहू और बेटे को खुशी-खुशी अपने साथ घर लिवा ले गई ।
