एक बार नारद ऋषि श्री राम जी से मिलने आए । उन्होंने द्वार पर हनुमान जी को देखा । हनुमान जी ने उन्हें प्रणाम किया । तब नारद जी बोले कि – हनुमान ! मैं प्रभु श्रीराम से मिलने आया हूं । प्रभु इस समय क्या कर रहे हैं । हनुमान जी बोले – भगवान श्री राम कुछ बही खाते का काम कर रहे है । तब नारद जी ने अंदर जाकर देखा कि भगवान श्री राम बही खाते में कुछ लिख रहे हैं । तब नारद जी बोले – प्रभू , आप इस काम के लिए किसी मुनीम को क्यों नहीं रख लेते ? तब श्री राम ने कहा कि – मैं अपना काम स्वयं करता हूं, मैं अपना काम किसी और को नहीं सौंप सकता । तब नारद जी बोले कि– भगवन , इस बही खाते में आप किस का हिसाब किताब कर रहे हो । तब श्री राम बोले कि – इस बही खाते में मेरे उन भक्तों के नाम है , जो मुझे दिन-रात भजते हैं । मैं उन भक्तों की प्रतिदिन हाजिरी लगाता हूं । तब नारद जी बोले कि – अच्छा प्रभु , बताइए मेरा नाम इस बही खाते में कहां पर है ? तब नारद जी ने बही खाते को देखा तो उनका नाम सबसे ऊपर लिखा हुआ था । यह देखकर नारद जी को बहुत ही खुशी हुई और उन्हें अपने आप पर गर्व महसूस होने लगा । पर नारद जी ने देखा कि हनुमान जी का नाम तो उस बही खाते में कहीं पर भी नहीं था । उन्हें यह देखकर बहुत ही आश्चर्य हुआ । उन्होंने सोचा कि हनुमान जी तो राम जी के खास भक्त हैं । फिर प्रभु श्री राम उनका नाम लिखना कैसे भूल गए । यह बात उन्होंने आकर हनुमान जी को बताई । तब हनुमान जी बोले – नारद जी , शायद आपने बही खाते को ठीक से नहीं देखा होगा । मेरा नाम उस बही खाते में ही लिखा होगा । तब नारद जी बोले कि – नहीं हनुमान , तुम्हारा नाम उस बही खाते में कहीं पर भी नहीं था । तब हनुमान जी बोले – अच्छा लगता है , प्रभु ने मुझे इस लायक ही नहीं समझा । कोई बात नहीं । फिर हनुमान जी बोले – मुझे लगता है कि प्रभु एक और बही खाता लिखते हैं । शायद उसमें मेरा नाम होगा । तब नारदजी अंदर गए और श्रीराम से दोबारा पूछा कि भगवान सुना है कि आपके पास दूसरा बही खाता भी रखते हैं । जरा उसे दिखाना , उसमें क्या है ? तो भगवान ने कहा कि उसे देखकर तुम क्या करोगे । तब नारद जी के ज्यादा हठ करने पर प्रभु ने दूसरा बही खाता दिखाया , तो उसमें हनुमान जी का नाम सबसे ऊपर था। तब नारद जी ने श्री राम जी से पूछा कि – भगवन , इसमें आप क्या लिखते हो ? तब राम जी बोले कि – इसमें उन भक्तों के नाम है , जिन्हें मैं भजता हूं । जो भक्त मुझे जिह्वा से भजते हैं , वह मेरे भक्त हैं और जो भक्त मुझे ह्रदय से सिमरन करते हैं । उनका मैं स्वयं भक्त बन जाता हूं ।
God said, this is my devotee whom I worship
Once Narad Rishi came to meet Shri Ram. He saw Hanuman ji at the door. Hanuman ji bowed down to him. Then Narad ji said - Hanuman! I have come to meet Lord Shri Ram. What is the Lord doing at this time? Hanuman ji said - Lord Shri Ram is doing some book keeping work. Then Narad ji went inside and saw that Lord Shri Ram was writing something in the ledger. Then Narad ji said - Lord, why don't you hire an accountant for this work? Then Shri Ram said – I do my work myself, I cannot hand over my work to anyone else. Then Narad ji said that - God, whose account are you keeping in this ledger account. Then Shri Ram said that - In this account the names of those devotees of mine, who worship me day and night, are there. I mark the attendance of those devotees daily. Then Narad ji said - Good Lord, tell me where is my name in this account? Then when Narad ji saw the account book, his name was written at the top. Narad ji was very happy to see this and he started feeling proud of himself. But Narad ji saw that Hanuman ji's name was nowhere in that account. He was very surprised to see this. He thought that Hanuman ji is a special devotee of Ram ji. Then how did Lord Shri Ram forget to write his name. He came and told this thing to Hanuman ji. Then Hanuman ji said - Narad ji, perhaps you must not have seen the account book properly. My name must have been written in that account only. Then Narad ji said - No Hanuman, your name was not there anywhere in that account. Then Hanuman ji said - I feel good, God did not consider me worthy of this. No problem . Then Hanuman ji said - I think that God writes another account. Maybe my name will be there. Then Naradji went inside and again asked Shriram that God has heard that you keep another ledger as well. Just show it, what's in it? So God said what will you do after seeing him. Then on Narad ji's stubbornness, the Lord showed another ledger account, in which Hanuman ji's name was at the top. Then Narad ji asked Shri Ram ji - God, what do you write in this? Then Ram ji said that - it contains the names of those devotees whom I worship. The devotees who worship me with their tongue are my devotees and the devotees who worship me with their heart. I myself become his devotee.
